One man and a van: A food odyssey

Last month we were delighted to host chef John Quilter along with a crew from Woman & Home as part of the NEFF Food Odyssey project.

John, AKA The Food Busker, is a pro at rustling up a feast on the go. He’s spent the past few years hunting out and recreating the hottest new trends in London’s street food for his Food Busker channel on YouTube, now one of the UK's fastest-growing food channels.

With his passion for meeting the people behind the UK’s amazing food scene and discovering what inspires them, The NEFF Food Odyssey was a project close to John’s heart.

“I work with like-minded brands and people who believe in what they do.”

We spent a glorious summer day with John, as he met our cows, saw our cheese being made and sampled some of our produce. Heading back to his Citroën van parked up in our fields, we were intrigued to find out what John would whip up in his camp kitchen.

It turned out it was the fresh taste of our whey butter that inspired him to create his fragrant Blood Orange Polenta Cake. A Slow Food recognised product, our butter is made from whey - a by-product of the cheesemaking process. A perfect celebration of the joy of a glorious summer’s day down on the farm, John's polenta cake also represented a delicious slice of Britain’s unique food heritage.

As part of this awesome journey, John has been travelling around the UK meeting selected local producers, who care deeply not only about what they put on your tables but about sustainability, the impact they have on their communities and their part in the UK food industry as a whole. We were honoured to be part of this journey, along with producers Solva SeafoodHives and HoneyTruffle and Mushroom HunterKC Caviar and the Butts Farm.

And the result? A selection of delicious dishes inspired by what he discovered along the way. Find out more about the NEFF Food Odyssey and watch the film of John's visit to the farm over on the Woman & Home website.
