The British Cheese Weekender returned for a second year, brought to us by the Academy of Cheese, the Specialist Cheesemakers Association, The Guild of Fine Food and cheese writer Patrick McGuigan.
The popular virtual festival of British cheese gave a unique peek behind the rind of artisan cheese in the UK, and featured many of the nation’s top cheesemakers, cheesemongers and cheese commentators. The festival brought us three days of free online events hosted by cheese experts up and down the country including our very own Mary Quicke. The packed programme included online masterclasses, cook-alongs, tutored tastings and virtual farm tours.
FLAVOUR MAPPING WITH MARY
As part of The British Cheese Weekender, Mary hosted a live session on our Instagram page (@quickescheese) where she unveiled a simple new tool, Flavour Mapping, to chart the full cheese tasting journey. Mary took us through each of the cheeses in the Cheddar Tasting Box from initial taste to mid taste to after taste. A perfect illustration of the breadth and complexity that can be achieved from working in harmony with the land.
