Elderflower Cheese & Wine Pairing

Quicke's Elderflower Cheese

A fresh, fragrant, buttery cheddar with a heavenly hint of real wild elderflowers. Provenance has always been important to us, so the elderflowers we use are wild and foraged, hand-picked from the South West, so never too far from Home Farm.

Our expert cheesemakers handcraft our Elderflower Cheese using heritage starters, before it is clothbound and stored in the cool quiet of our cheese cellars where it matures naturally for six months.

For us, wild elderflower has always marked the arrival of summer. Our Elderflower Cheese exhibits its naturally delicate scent, with predominantly rich and buttery flavours with delicate aromatic floral notes. We think this summer hedgerow hero is the perfect way to adorn our delicious cheese throughout the summer months.

Throw the linen on the table, cut open a wedge, slice the charcuterie, serve the pickles and pour yourself one of these delectable wines which all pair perfectly with our Elderflower Cheese.

Pinot Grigio

Terlato 2014 Pinot Grigio

Friuli Colli Orientali, Italy
Delicate aromas of elderflower, beeswax and orchard fruit. A lively zesty acidity next to creamy peach, green pear and citrus with a slight mineral note. Flavour notes from an English garden match the summery elderflower cheese.

Kris 2014 Pinot Grigio

Delle Venezie, Italy

A vibrant and crisp pinot grigio. This wine has delicate citrus aromas and a palate of crunchy green apple, tangerine zest and a hint of almond. A lovely bright acidity to cut through the creamy notes in the cheese.

Abbazia di Novacella 2015 Pinot Grigio

Alto Adige Valle Isarco, Italy

This structured pinot grigio starts with delicate floral scents with citrus and a touch of herb. Tastes like creamy white peach, crisp green apple and juicy nectarine. Its bright acidity, herb and floral notes works perfectly with the aromatic cheese.

Sauvignon Blanc

Blind River Sauvignon Blanc 2015

Marlborough, New Zealand

This sauvignon blanc is made from fruit from the Awatere Valley. Flavours reminiscent of passion fruit and lemon geranium sorbet. Ten percent of the wine is fermented in old oak which adds a creamy texture not dissimilar to the elderflower cheese.

Peter Yealands Sauvignon Blanc 2015

Marlborough, New Zealand

An extremely herbaceous sauvignon blanc, which smells like tomato stems, rounded off nicely by the sweetness of ripe nectarines and star fruit. This is something quite different to the rest, which pairs very well with the elderflower present in the cheese.

Adnams, The Adnams Selection Sauvignon Blanc 2015

Marlborough, New Zealand

A low alcohol wine is always useful for summer lunchtime grazing. Elderflower and citrus aromas lead into a juicy gooseberry - a summer hedgerow palate to accompany the most summery of cheeses.
