Colston Bassett stilton is made in Nottinghamshire at Colston Bassett Dairy. Stilton’s origins date back to the 18th century when it was eaten at The Bell Inn, Stilton. Now a protected cheese (PDO), Stilton can only be made in the counties of Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire. Colston Bassett Stilton is often considered to be the best. Little has changed since they started making cheese in 1913, and they still use the milk from four of the original local farms that set up the co-operative in the beginning. The reputation of the dairy has gone from strength to strength, and it is now famous for making Stilton that is velvety and smooth, with a full, well-balanced, sweet and ‘mineral-y’ flavour.

This 1.8kg truckle is a mining version of their larger stilton's is creamy buttery with the characteristic blue vein of a stilton. It has a balanced gentler flavour than some stilton.  This is perfect for any celebration.

Pairs perfectly with a Hanlons Port Stout.

Stilton

Until now I've been buying my Stilton from Neal's yard. However as I'm ordering anyway from Quicke's it makes sense to buy it here. A whole (mini) truckle is quite a lot of cheese, as there are only two of us to eat it and it's a terrible sacrifice to have to eat it quickly 😅, as once cut it needs to be consumed within a couple of weeks if it's stored in a domestic refrigerator.

I just "keep coming back for" the Cheddar

I do keep trying to find other cheddars to rival the Vintage Clothbound. Scotland's now got one or two fine ones, as of course does Devon, but they never quite make it up to the VC standard.

And I'm glad you've picked out my other favourite of British cheeses - an excellent Stilton.

Yes, I'll still keep coming back for more.
